Simple Loneliness

Perhaps the worst kind of loneliness is feeling alone when a person is around other familiar people. It may the annual family reunion of the office party when the realization hits that these people just do know you or even understand how you think or feeling about any given topic. You are only there to serve a function or a particular dynamic of a group. It is a hard realization when a person discovers that they do not have to be alone to feel loneliness.

Is the loneliness is a fact or just a projection of a person’s feelings at the time? In all reality the group of people you are with have no idea you feel this way and would probably be concerned if they knew. It is natural for people to assume that everyone is feeling the same way that they are; especially when one is having fun or bonding. Is it possible that this particular feeling of loneliness is an indicator of depression?

Some people may not experience this type of loneliness in groups; they feel it in their relationship with their significant other. Two people in a relationship grow so far apart that they no longer feel the presence of the other next to them nor do they feel the distinct feeling of their partner reaching for the same goals. A realization occurs that the person you have chosen to spend your life with simply does not understand your thoughts or feelings…or maybe they just no longer want to.
